EASY CHOCOLATE NESTS

EASY CHOCOLATE NESTS

UNLESS YOU'RE ME, THEN YOU'LL STILL FIND A WAY TO MESS THEM UP

For my first blog post, (eeek!) I thought I'd give something a go that everyone will like. You might have noticed that it's Easter this

weekend! Given that Easter and Christmas are the only times of the year that people can bulk buy chocolate and not get judged, I waltzed on down to Asda, picked myself up six bars of chocolate and two bags of Mini Eggs and managed not to get judgemental eyes from the checkout lady! SUCCESS!

Now, everyone loves a Cornflake cake or a Rice Crispie cake; they're tried and tested classics that everyone and their Gran breaks out at Easter. Greggs even makes them all year 'round! (Can always count on Greggs!) But it wasn't 'til I watched this Zoella video in which she used Shredded Wheat instead that I realised it makes a lot more sense to do so, as the final product is closer in resemblance to a nest! So, being Easter, what better time to give this a go?!

...Also I bought a big box of Shredded Wheat in January when I wanted to eat more healthily and they're still flippin' there cos they taste like cardboard! So, what better way to make me eat them, then to whack a load of choccy on 'em!

Zoella's recipe said 300g of chocolate to 6 large shredded wheat biscuits. Since I like living on the edge (of diabetes, apparently) I decided that her recipe wouldn't be chocolatey enough for me so I went with the ratio 600g of chocolate to 4 shredded wheat biscuits. After nearly breaking my teeth trying to eat one after it had set, I'd recommend listening to Zoella. The lady knows what she's talking about.

(They were just the right level of chocolatey for me though so if you can afford the dental work, feel free to give mine a go!*)

*I wil not be held responsible for lost teeth, please don't send me your dental bills. Thanks.

So anyway, started by melting 600g of chocolate in a bain marie (which is essentially the French way of saying, "stick your chocolate in a bowl, then stick that bowl in a pan with a bit of water. Stick the pan on the heat, then leave it to do it's thing!" But the French language is too elegant for that.) Make sure that the heat is not too high because the chocolate will burn and just turn into a thick gloop. I narrowly missed that ditch.

When the chocolate was pretty much melted, I crushed up my four large shredded wheat biscuits.

All mixed together, now to pop the mixture in the cases!

Ta-da! Now to stick a few Mini Eggs on them and pop ‘em in the fridge for a bit if you prefer them after they have set. I personally like mine melted a little which is easily achieved, even after they have set, just by popping them in the microwave for 15 seconds! To be honest, I had to melt the chocolate a little for mine in order to make them edible! Couldn't taste the blandness of the shredded wheat though... you win some you lose some, I guess!

...Even if what you're losing is fillings!

Complete credit to Zoella for this! If you’re not familiar with her already, she’s only the biggest female vlogger in the UK! You should definitely check out her Youtube channel. She has a lot of great baking videos for all occasions!

I'm off to get veneers now but I'll be back in the future with further posts (probably not about baking, to the relief of my boyfriend who has become my taste-testing victim).

I'm around on social media so I would appreciate it very much if you followed me!

Oh no, this is where I have to commit to an outro.

Stay awesome, bros.

No, that's Pewdiepie.

If I don't see you for a week, I'll see you through a window.

No, that's Keith Lemon and wildly inappropriate.

Well, now this is awkward and I have to go.

NO WAIT THAT'S NOT IT. THAT'S NOT IT.
